Allergic rhinitis and asthma – united airway disease
Allergic rhinitis and bronchial asthma are airway diseases characterised by common incidence, pathogenesis with many identical characteristics and increasing prevalence, what rates them among civilizing diseases. ARIA initiative (Allergic rhinitis and its impact on asthma) refers to need of common view on both these respiratory allergic diseases. Review article summarizes main ideas of ARIA useful for everyday clinical practice, emphasizing the need for simultaneous diagnostics and therapeutic management of rhinitis and asthma. Without stabilising the upper airway disease, control of asthma is not possible, and similarly, even in the case of „free nose“, in the case of persisting asthmatic symptoms, patient breathing will not be comfortable.
