SEXUALLY TRANSMITTED DISEASES IN PRIMARY CARE

Sexually transmitted diseases (STD) are divided into two groups: „classical venereal diseases“ and other STD. Classical venereal diseases are syphilis, gonorrhea, soft chancre, lymphogranuloma venereum and granuloma inguinale. The incidence of syphilis has increased last years in Slovakia. The main therapeutical problem for gonorrhoeais the resistance to some antibiotics. There are also increased numbers of patients with hepatitis C, chlamydial and herpetic infections. Chlamydial infections are insidious due to high contagiosity and frequent asymptomatic course of disease leading to sterility. Relapse is the main issue for herpetic infections. The authors call attention on STD manifested in oral and anal area and on the basic principles of therapy, which are consisted of antiinfective therapy along with treatment of sexual partner and laboratory confirmation of patient´s recovery.
