D-mannose as a prevention of recurrent urinary tract infections

Recurrent urinary tract infection is a common and debilitating condition in women with limited options for prophylactic treatment. D-mannose is a sugar that appears to reduce the incidence of recurrent minor urinary tract infections and associated discomfort. D-mannose can be used as a complementary or alternative treatment for recurrent urinary tract infections. The article provides a summary of current objective knowledge about the possibilities of using D-mannose in urinary tract infections. The need for better quality clinical studies on a larger number of patients is still evident.
