Thrombophilic states in relation to pregnancy

According to the present knowledge it is presumed that preexistence of thrombophilia along with physiological changes of haemostasis contributes to the prothrombotic state during pregnancy and postpartum period. Thus it increases the risk of thrombotic and pregnancy complications. As they represent life-threatening states that are the subject of management of not only haematologists, vascular surgeons, neonatologists, gynaecologists and obstetricians, but also other experts, this article includes the characteristics of the influence of inherited and acquired thrombophilia on the mentioned clinical situations. It also discusses the possibilities of their pharmacological prevention.
