Sulodexid in the treatment of chronic venous insufficiency
Chronic venous insufficiency (CVI) is a serious disease of incompetent venous circulation with substantial socioeconomic consequences. Sulodexid is a high purified glycosaminoglycan consisted of fast moving heparin (80%) and dermatan-sulfat (20%). The aim of our study was to investigate the effect of 3months´ treatment by sulodexide in patients with CVI. The study group consisted of 54 patients (44 women, 10 men), mean age 65,1±8,1 years. Patients underwent examination by digital photopletysmography before and after the treatment by sulodexid (Vessel DueF 2x1cps daily). Venous refilling time (VRT) and venous pump power (VPP) were evaluated. We found the statistically significant improvement of VRT (p=0,001), improvement of VPP, improvement of clinical symptoms of CVI and no incidence of trombophlebitis or phlebothrombosis during the treatment by sulodexid. Sulodexid with its pharmacological properties (selectivity of vessel wall permability maintenance, antithrombotic, profibrinolytic, antiproliferative effect) is the approppriate drug for the treatment of CVI.
