Risk factors for chronic venous disease and possibilities of their elimination
The etiology of chronic venous diseases is multifactorial involving environmental risk factors, genetic and hemodynamic factors which result in changes to the venous endothelium, chronic inflammation and structural changes in the walls and valves of the lower limbs veins. Risk factors like low physical activity, sedentary occupations, arterial hypertension, diabetes mellitus, obesity and ankle joint arthrosis are discussed in this article in details. Lifestyle changes, especially regular exercise, weight loss, compression therapy and venoactive drugs could improve the disease course.
