Hemostasis and pregnancy complications

This is a review article on hemostasis and its role in pregnancy. Pregnancy is a difficult time for haemostatic system. Hemostasis interferes with the process of blastocyst implantation and placentation. Hemostasis maintains optimal blood supply to the placenta, providing quick and adequate precipitation during childbirth. Many coagulation proteins are expressed early in embryonic development and play role outside of coagulation in proliferation and differentiation of cells. Congenital and acquired thrombophilia is considered a risk factor for unsuccessful reproduction and pregnancy complications. However, there is a paucity of strong evidence associated with adverse pregnancy outcomes and thrombophilia in pregnancy.
