Endovascular treatment of pelvic congestive syndrome with multiple ovarian vein insufficiency – case report.
Purpose: Pelvic congestive syndrom (PCS) is a relatively common cause of intermittent or constant pelvic pain in women lasting 3-6 months. Pelvic conestive syndrom is frequently misdiagnosed, the pain is present in the pelvic and abdominal region typical throughout the menstrual cycle. Golden standard for definitive diagnostic is transcathetral phlebography. Typical venographic findings include dilated and incompetent ovarian varicose veins. The treatment options for PCS are limited, based on venopharmaceuticals. Endovascular treatment - embolization of the ovarian veins becomes the treatment of first choice in women with severe clinical symptoms not responding to conservative treatment. Case report: Our case report describes 35-year-old patient with history of pelvic pain in whom ovarial vein insuficiency was detected. Repeated embolization of the ovarian veins was performed with a good clinical effect. Conclusion: It can be concluded that PCS represents a potentially serious clinical syndrome that can significantly reduce the quality of life for many patients of productive age. Its early diagnosis and adequate treatment, which is fully available today, are among the key interventions in an effort to prevent further progression of clinical symptoms.
