Could the education of the population decrease the prevalence of varicose veins and their complications in Slovak republic?
Varicose veins are one of the most common diseases, which gradually progress to chronic venous insufficiency. The patients´ quality of life suffering from chronic venous disease is decreased. Inspite of the high prevalence of chronic venous disease the treatment of the disease starts lately. One of the reasons is insufficient education and information of the lay general public. In this work importance of education is emphasized in the out-patients departments of specialist (angiologists and vascular surgeons) and general practioners. Apart from the education of the patients and thus secondary prevention of the disease very important is also primary prevention and education of the whole population. Since 2013 the project Health veins days has enabled such an extensive education of population in Slovak republic.
