Central venous stenoses in hemodialysis patients
Central venous stenoses and occlusions are relatively common findings in hemodialysis patients. They most often arise as a result of the use of central venous catheters. In most cases, they are asymptomatic and unmask only after the formation of AVF or AVG on the ipsilateral limb. Diagnosis is relatively simple. It is based on the anamnesis and the clinical picture. In the case of an asymptomatic or oligosymptomatic course, a conservative approach is preferred. Treatment is indicated if symptoms worsen. The method of choice is endovascular treatment. Surgical treatment is indicated only in case of failure of endovascular treatment.
