Urological complications following cancer treatment
The incidence of most tumour diseases has been increasing in the last decades. Despite technical progress in radiotherapy and pharmacology and in spite of the development of mini-invasive surgical methods, potential complications of anticancer treatment continue more or less unabated. In urology, one may encounter iatrogenic injury to the urinary tract, whether following surgical treatment or administration of ionizing radiation. The administration of systemic chemotherapy may negatively affect gonadal functions as well as immunity, thereby worsening the course of urinary tract infections. The article presents the most common complications encountered by a urologist and the selected options of their management.
