Nocturia – will the urologist handle it?

Nocturia is a very troublesome symptom; its incidence in the population is high and increases with age. For its significant impact on the quality of life of patients it is often the first reason to visit the urology department. Due to the complexity of the etiopathogenesis of this disease, the urologist's main role is the careful diagnosis. Integral part is the evaluation of the so-called frequency volume chart. Depending on the etiological type of nocturia (polyuria, nocturnal polyuria, reduced bladder capacity or sleep disorders) treatment is initiated. Regulation of fluid intake and treatment of primary illness are indicated regardless of the type of disorder. Therapy often requires interdisciplinary cooperation with internists, endocrinologists and psychiatrists.
