Retrospective analysis of breast cancer subtypes with a focus on triple-negative breast cancer

Molecular classification of breast cancer significantly impacts treatment strategy, surgical approaches, and patient prognosis. Each molecular subtype presents distinct challenges, ranging from less aggressive hormone receptor-positive tumors to the biologically aggressive triple-negative breast cancer (TNBC). TNBC is associated with higher morbidity and mortality, often requiring radical surgical intervention and comprehensive oncological care. At the 1st Department of Surgery, University Hospital of Louis Pasteur (UNLP) in Košice, we conducted a retrospective analysis of molecular subtypes in patients hospitalized during the period from January 2023 till December 2023. As part of this study, we present a case report of a patient with TNBC complicated by hemorrhagic shock, emphasizing the necessity of multidisciplinary management in advanced disease stages. This article aims to highlight the critical role of molecular classification in the individualized treatment of breast cancer patients and to underscore the importance of effective interdisciplinary collaboration among surgeons, oncologists, and intensivists in its management.
