Cystosarcoma phyllodes – still actual problem
Phyllodes tumors (PT) are uncommon fibroepithelial breast neoplasms that account for 0.3% to 1.0% of all primary breast tumors. During the period from January 1994 to December 2010, 5 patients were retrospectively analysed for PT at the 2nd Clinic of Surgery, Faculty of Medicine P. J. Safarik University Kosice and L. Pasteur University Hospital Kosice. We describe two interesting cases. Four patients healed without complications after a surgical treatment (two after lumpectomy, one after quadrantectomy and one after radical Madden´s mastectomy). The last patient was treated in our hospital in 2007 in the terminal IV. stage after five previous operations in other hospitals, where she underwent radiotherapy and chemotherapy too. She was admitted to our hospital with bleeding from a large tumour on the left side of her chest, which extended to the back. It was only possible to perform a local treatment with necrectomy and haemostasis. The patient died after three months. In conclusion we would like emphasize that malignant type of cystosarcoma phyllodes is still a medical problem. The results of treatment depend on biological characteristics of this tumours.
