Slovak Psychiatric Association in the Third Millennium

The authors describe the functioning and broad-spectrum activities of the Slovak Psychiatric Association in the third millennium. It is mainly the organization of scientific and professional events, support for education and publishing activities. Intensive intradisciplinary and multidisciplinary cooperation with other domestic and foreign professional associations has developed. The needs of practice influenced the establishment of three new sections of the association. The Slovak Psychiatric Association has started using a website through which communication with members has been realised. The rules for awarding prizes and grants had been updated. The association has important influence on the mental health policy in Slovak Republic. It expresses opinions as an important partner on current topics and problems in the field of psychiatry and in general on mental health care. Through its activities, it significantly contributes to the fact that Slovak mental health experts are an integral and full-fledged part of the professional world.
