Antipsychotic combination treatment and electroconvulsive therapy in a patient with catatonic schizophrenia
I present a case report of a 31-year-old man who was admitted for his 15th hospitalization with the diagnosis of catatonic schizophrenia and alcohol dependence. At the beginning of his hospitalization, the patient was given parenteral medication, but due to the insufficient therapeutic effect, we proceeded to the administration of electroconvulsive therapy (ECT). We gradually switched from parenteral treatment to oral administration of benzodiazepines and antipsychotic combination therapy - cariprazine and olanzapine. Subsequently, the patient’s mental state was compensated.
