Almond oil in extemporaneous prescription
Almond oil contains 20 − 30 % of linoleic acid glycerides present in several types of ceramides. The article discusses the importance of lipids as a component of emollients and their effect on the skin barrier. Almond oil is an available pharmaceutical raw material and can be formulated in extemporaneous preparations intended for adjuvant therapy of dermatitides and for skin care. Also included are formulas for class I topical corticosteroids, containing an oleophilic base with almond oil, that are particularly suitable in paediatric practice.
