Breastfeeding and maternal medications
One of the situations that requires supporting breastfeeding on part of health care professionals or pharmacists are medications for breastfeeding mothers in order for breastfeeding to continue even at a time when treatment is necessary. Consequently, it is important that doctors and pharmacists are able to evaluate the risk versus benefit ratio stemming from maternal medications as well as risks of not breastfeeding and risks of formula feeding. The goal of this article is to map out the situation and current state of knowledge in Slovakia and to point out the need for this issue to be addressed by health care professionals.
