The dermal semisolid drugs – part I
The dermal semisolid drugs belong to the category of topical drugs – the term coming from the Greek word „topikos“ meaning local. Hence, the topical administration supposes that the drug is applied at a local place on the skin or mucosa membrane and may develop either local or systemic effect or both. Just the magistra liter topical drugs effectively curry many surface wounds, inflammations, stretched tendons etc. The paper deals exclusively with the locally acting dermal semisolid drugs, specifically the ointments and creams, their bases and the magistra liter recipes. Their advantage is that they avoid stomach and gastrointestinal tract and act virtually instantly. The follower of this paper will be devoted to the gels and pastes.
