Analysis of drug consumption development from 2009 to 2018 in the Slovak Republic
The aim of this study was to analyze the consumption of drugs from in packages, financial expenditures and defined daily doses during the ten years period (from 2009 to 2018) in the Slovak Republic. Sales data of wholesalers, which are legally obliged to provide information to the State Institute for Drug Control were used for the analysis. The database Spotreba liekov na Slovensku, Modra 2000–2018, MCR, s. r. o., was used. Data about consumption based on defined daily doses in accordance with the classification of the World Health Organization were incorporated. The collected data showed an increase in consumption of drugs from 2009 to 2011 in defined daily doses. However, moderate decrease in consumption till 2012 at the level 3 594 269 715 DDD can be seen. The consumption of drugs from 2013 till 2017 increased at the level of 4 460 445 796 DDD. Data showed decrease in consumption of drugs in 2018 at the level of 4 338 494 260 DDD. The analysis can be supportive for utilization studies and following application of systematic arrangements for regulations of drug policy in the Slovak Republic.
