Severe consequences of pneumococcal meningoencephalitis
We present a case report of 1-year old boy with severe meningoencephalitis and consequent development of apallic syndrome. Preventable serotype 19F of Streptococcus pneumoniaehas been confirmed as etiologic agens. Personal history revealed that the child was not vaccinated due to parental refusal. Our goal is to point out importance of vaccination and responsible consideration of contraindication of immunization.
