Effect of pneumococcal conjugate vaccine PCV7 to incidence of acute otitis media in children under the 2 years old

Acute otitis media (AOM) is one of the very common diseases in children, with peak of incidence at the age from 6 to 18 months. In the present study are evaluated the influence of vaccination with PCV7 to incidence of acute otitis media in children under the 2 years of age, comparing the number of hospitalized and ambulatory treated children with AOM before and after obligatory vaccination. In the present study were demonstrated effect of vaccination in children in the age of < 2 years, decrease in ambulatory AOM 46,3 % and decrease the number of severe AOM which required hospitalization 42,8 %. These results confirmed that acute otitis media is preventable diseases by vaccination.
