Recurrent aphthous stomatitis and treatment options in children

Recurrent aphthous stomatitis (RAS) is the most common chronic disease of the oral cavity of unclear etiopathogenesis, which affects up to 25 % of the population. Diagnosis of the disease is based on the clinical picture. The triggers can be various factors, such as trauma, stress, endocrinological diseases, poor nutrition or genetic predisposition. Local treatment uses anaesthetics, antiseptics and steroids. This article is focused on classification and current treatment options for recurrent aphthous stomatitis in the pediatric population.
