Hemangiomas and other vascular tumors
Infantile hemangioma is a benign vascular tumor diagnosed in childhood. An angiologist or angiosurgeon encounters this diagnosis during consultation examinations. The development of infantile hemangioma proceeds through a faster proliferative phase, a phase of arrested growth and a slower phase of involution. Although many cases do not require therapy, a minority of infantile hemangiomas are treated with systemic administration of propranolol. Infantile hemangioma can also be a part of complex syndromes such as PHACE and LUMBAR. Unlike infantile hemangioma, which is almost unrecognizable at birth, congenital hemangioma is visible immediately after birth. Other vascular tumors occur more rarely compared to hemangioma.
