CFRD – Cystic Fibrosis Related Diabetes
CFRD is a complication of the underlying disease and occurs in the second to third decade of life of patients with cystic fibrosis. CFRD is associated with worsening clinical outcomes, poor nutritional status and decline in lung function,. Early diagnosis is made possible by annual screening of diabetes by oral glucose tolerance test. Only recommended medical therapy is insulin. We use a high-caloriet diet, without restrictions of any kind of fat, there are excluded sweet drinks, candy tied to conventional fats are preferred.
