Hypercalcemia in malignant diseases
Hypercalcemia is a common life threatening metabolic paraneoplastic syndrom. Parathyroid hormon related protein (PTHRP) plays a major role. Therapeutic decision should be based on the corrected serum calcium or ioized calcium concentrations and symptoms. The mainstays of therapy for hypercalcemia in advanced cancer are parenteral hydration and bisphosphonates.
