PET in the diagnosis of glial brain tumors
Magnetic resonance imaging is the standard diagnostic imaging method of brain gliomas. However, its use is associated with several limitations, leading to increasing adoption of positron emission tomography (PET) in this setting, which allows characterization of pathological changes on a molecular basis. In this review we provide a brief overview of the used radiopharmaceuticals and appropiate indications of PET in the initial diagnosis, therapy planning and monitoring, as well as in diagnosis of disease recurrence.
