Insulinoma – diagnostics and management
Insulinomas are the most common functional pancreatic neuroendocrine tumours and because of their autonomous insulin production they are one of the most frequent causes of hypoglycaemia in non-diabetic patients. In most cases, they are sporadic, benign and small sized. The basis of diagnosis is Whipple‘s triad, laboratory evidence of endogenous hyperinsulinism with subsequent localizing examinations. The only curative method for benign insulinomas is surgical treatment with high success rate. In the present article, the authors give a brief overview of the diagnosis and treatment of these rare tumours.
