The cytoreductive surgery and HIPEC in the treatment of locally progressive malignities of abdominal cavity and carcinomatosis
The author gives a concise summary of the issue, dealing with locally progressive malignities of abdominal cavity afflicted with carcinosis in the case of a failing systematic treatment with maximum cytoreduction, followed by an intraperitoneal perioperational hyperthermic lavage of the abdominal cavity with cytostatics (HIPEC), and supplemented with a timely normothermic postoperative intraperitoneal lavage by cytostatics (EPIC). The study contains indication criteria, existing methods of evaluation of the cytoreduction degree, possibities of intraperitoneal administration of cytostatics and individual surgical techniques, as well as various aspects of this method, including literary data concerning mortality, morbidity and a 5-year survival span. The author has had an opportunity to apply this method in two separate medical sites (in Slovakia and the Czech Republic).
