Autologous stem cell transplantation in pacient with multiple myeloma and follicular lymphoma
The aim of our case presentation is to point out a need of multidisciplinary approach in a diagnostic process of oncological patients and an importance of autologous stem cell transplantation in treatment of multiple myeloma. Clinical case: We present a clinical case of 67 years old man with synchronous multiple myeloma (MM) and follicular lymphoma (FL). Bone marrow examination revealed the presence of two clonal cell populations. According to GELF (Groupe d-Etude des Lymphomes Folliculaires) criteria, the patient did not meet criteria for follicular lymphoma treatment. The treatment decision was determined by symptomatic multiple myeloma. After four cycles of a standard induction therapy with VCD (bortezomib, dexamethasone, cyclophosphamide) he achieved a stable disease according to IMWG (Intrenational Myeloma Working Group). He underwent subsequently autologous stem cell transplantation. After the treatment, he achieved a complete remission of FL and partial remission (PR) of MM. Conclusion: Autologous stem cell transplantation is an effective treatment modality for both diseases. Even in the era of novel agents is the autologous stem cell transplantation still important part of the treatment of myeloma patients.
