Modern corticosteroids in treatment of skin diseases: mometasone fuorate
Topical steroids were introduce in the 1950´s and have revolutionized the treatment of many skin conditions. Even today, topical steroids are widely prescribed, not only in dermatological practice. A large number of topical corticosteroids are available, ranging from extremely high to low potency preparations. Many structural modifications were made to improve the efficacy and minimizing the adverse effects. Application of topical steroids more than once daily increase side effects, and usually does not increase efficacy. Many clinical studies and our experience confirm that by following the recommended procedure, by applying once daily mometason fuorate - a modern and highly effective steroid, safety can be ensured.
