Basalioma of the eyelids and surrounding tissues
Basalioma is the most common tumor in eyelids and sorrounding tissues (dg.C44.1). The incidence is increasing after age 50. Most of the cases are diagnosed in stage T1 and T2, when we can surgically reconstruct and get good functional and cosmetic results. Full-thickness eyelid defects are created in the resection of eyelid carcinomas. These eyelid colobomas can be successfully reconstructed with remaining eyelid tissue in the majority of cases. In the T3 stage by penetrating of the tumor in to the orbit the process leads to destruction of the eye and in some patients radical surgical procedures (enucleation, partial exenteration) or total exenteration is necessary.
