Use of EEG on intensive care units

Electroencephalography is used relatively rarely in intensive care units. In this article, we provide an overview of conditions in which EEG can contribute to the adjustment of therapy or a better estimate of prognosis. Its benefit is mainly in the detection of non-convulsive seizures, which often escape the attention of the nursing staff. We also provide an overview of pathological patterns that are associated with a higher risk of seizures. In the future, the wider use of EEG in intensive care units will improve the level of health care provided.
