Spinal cord injuries, slovak incidence and prevention

Spinal cord injury belongs among the most devastating injuries both physically and mentally, which may affect the person´s mental fitness. It reduces quality of life significantly. Due to the long-term consequences of various sizes and extent belongs among the diseases with the greatest economic burden for a patient, patient´family and health care system. Curative treatment is not possible at present. The best medicine is the prevention. The epidemiological characteristics is very important for the creation of conditions of prevention from these injuries. We found out, that Slovakia has not got the official data register of epidemiology of spinal cord injuries. The incidence in Slovakia is comparable with the incidence in neighbouring countries.
