Tension type headache in clinical practise

Tension type headache is a frequent finding in the clinics of general practitioners and neurologists. Despite the high incidence and good prognosis in some patients, over time the pain can transform into a chronic nature, which significantly affects the daily activities of life. The clinical picture of tension headache is relatively non-specific and therefore other possible causes should be considered in certain cases, especially if other warning signs are present. In the case of frequent to chronic tension headaches, in addition to the available analgesics, we must also consider the use of preventive medical therapy as well as complementary treatment techniques. In this article, we present an overview of the epidemiology, clinical picture, differential diagnosis and treatment of tension headache, which primary care physicians encounter on a daily basis.
