Fluid treatment of selected acute states in prehospital care
Intravenous treatment is the most common treatment intervention in the emergency medical service. It is administered to resuscitate blood circulation in shock states, to replace fluid losses, or, eventually, as a maintenance infusion when physiological fluid intake is impossible. Infusion solutions should be considered as a preparation of medication, and their incorrect indication may negatively affect the patient’s clinical outcome. The article contains types of infusion solutions, their composition and fluid management of a patient with a serious injury in the conditions of prehospital care.
