Statins and acute coronary syndrome
Patient with acute coronary syndrome has high morbidity and mortality as it is known from clinical trials, registries and also from daily clinical practice. Clinical trials have shown that the early treatment of these patients with statins (in the high dosage and with evidence especially for atorvastatin) immediately at the onset of the disease improves the mentioned morbidity and mortality. The author discusses also pathophysiologic mechanisms behind this benefit.
