SENIOR CARE IN RETIREMENT FACILITIES
As of 31st December 2003, 12 315 residents were living in 175 old people´s homes in Slovakia. their health status is unfavourable. It is characterized by multimorbidity, deteriorated functional status and cognitive disorders. the prevalence of geriatric syndromes (falls, urinary and faecal incontinence) is high. the residents regularly use 4,8 drugs on average, most frequently psychotropics, nitrates and antiaggregants of thrombocytes. the mean mortality during 15 years period was 106,5 ‰. authors recommended the applicaton of functional tests, education in geriatrics a regular visits of residents.
