Care for patients after myocardial revascularization therapy in general practitioner`s office
Despite the much more affordable revascularization treatment (PCI – percutaneous coronary intervention, AKB – coronary artery bypass graft), long-term results of treated coronary patients are not satisfactory, and there are many reasons. The comprehensive secondary prevention of cardiovascular accidents is one of the overriding needs relating to the overall management of patients after PCI, AKB even thanks to a general practitioner and helps to reduce subsequent morbidity and lethality of patients. Long-term complex pharmacological and non-pharmacological treatment of these patients is indispensable and should be involved not only cardiologist, but also an internist and general practitioner. This article brings some important information for general practitioners on the long-term care for patients after percutanneous coronary intervention or aortocoronary bypass operations. The emphasis is mainly on antiplatelet therapy and the treatment strategy „B.A.S.I.C.“ (B: beta-blocker, A: antiaggregation therapy, S: statin, I: angiotensin-converting enzyme inhibitor, C: risk factors control).
