Sarcopenia in internal medicine
Sarcopenia represents a progressive, generalized loss of skeletal muscle mass, muscle strength and muscle function. It is associated with the physiological human aging as well as the amount of chronic diseases, where has negative influence on their progression and prognosis. The aim of the paper is to present an overview of current knowledge of sarcopenia, the possibilities of its measurement and therapeutic interventions, focusing on the most frequently occurring chronic diseases in internal medicine.
