Psoriasis as a risk factor for metabolic diseases
Psoriasis is a chronic inflammatory systemic disease that not only affects the skin, but can also act systemically and affect serious comorbidities. Numerous studies have demonstrated the association of psoriasis with metabolic syndrome and its components and cardiovascular disease. The common denominator of all these comorbidities seems to be a systemic inflammatory state. These findings have changed not only our understanding of the origin and evolution of the disease, but inevitably also our clinical approach to the patient. Therefore, a multidisciplinary approach to psoriasis usually leads to finding the most appropriate treatment for any specific patient.
