Prophylaxis of the venous thromboembilism in patients after surgery
Venous thromboembolism is the most frequent cause of mortality of patients after surgery. Incidence of fatal VTE after elective surgery in general surgery without thromboprophylaxis is from 0,3% to 0,8%. Incidence of deep venous thrombosis is in 15–40% and very often it remains undiagnosed. General screening seems not to be effective, therefore thromboprophylaxis is preferred.
