Prevention of venous thromboembolism in practice of general practitioner
Venous thromboembolism (VTE) is a common and potentially lethal disease. Authors discuss various possibilities of its prevention in the field of medicine and surgery. Although the focus of prevention of VTE is taking place at the hospital, in circumstances such as major orthopaedic surgery, abdominal surgery in oncology as well as in cancer patients with solid tumours and other risk factors for VTE preventive treatment is administered in an outpatient setting. In the outpatient practice we also face the issue of traveller’s thrombosis prevention, and issues of pregnant or postpartum women.
