PREVALENCE OF HYPERTENSION IN THE INVESTIGATED POPULATION OF 40 YEARS´ MEN AND WOMEN IN NITRA REGION IN 2003

In our study in 2003 we examinated 259 quadragenerians (104 men and 155 women) from Nitra region who voluntarily participed in the MED-PED Project „ Diagnosis, depistage and treatment of familiar hypercholesterolemia“. One of the main study objectives was to assess the prevalence oh hypertension and other cardiovascular risk factors. The investigation was conducted by regional MED-PED centre as the part of the Slovakian project and realized in 11 settings of general practicioners. Study results deal with prevalence of hypertension (all cohort 43 probands – 16.6 %) and its differencies between men (29 probands – 27.9 %) and women (14 probands – 9 %). Hypertension was in positive correlation with overweight, hypertriglyceridemia, hypercholesterolemia, and smoking. Our global results suggest the importance of need to take a better impact on primary prevention for this population.
