Corps inspection and autopsy – competencies and duties of a general practitioner

The authors deal with the competencies and duties of a general practitioner during corpse inspection. They highlight the pitfalls that can, in case of inadequate procedure, trigger criminal law prosecution against the general practitioner. This professional activity is legally thoroughly defined and ethically sensitive at the same time. However, in practice, there still exist a number of shortcomings that need to be dealt with. It is therefore necessary for all doctors providing corpse inspection to be able to properly orientate themselves within the legal and medical aspects of the given activity, regardless of the age of the deceased person.
