The main points of the new guidelines for management of acute myocardial infarction with ST-segment elevation – STEMI

Background: Acute myocardial infarction with ST-segment elevation in the ECG image is emergent and urgent clinical situation with a constant challenge to improve comprehensive management. Aim: To inform the general practitioner with the major and substantial information from the new guidelines of the European Society of Cardiology (ECS) for the STEMI management. Conclusion: In addition to other relevant information, the paper presents two key themes of the new ESC guidelines for STEMI, namely: 1. recommended maximum intervals (time delays) in STEMI reperfusion therapy, 2. new antithrombotic, especially antiplatelet therapy STEMI.
