HERPES ZOSTER – SHINGLES

Herpes zoster results from reactivation of latent varicella-zoster virus in the dorsal root ganglia. The illness affects mostly elderly patients and its incidence is constantly increasing. The serious disease may have a lifethreatening course. The post-herpetic neuralgia use to debilitate affected persons for a long month. Progressively increasing life expectancy of the population translates to increasing numbers of cases of herpes zoster. The active treatment with newly antivirals reduces the risk of serious course of disease, speeds the healing of shingles and decreases the frequency of pain.
