Pancreatitis

Pancreatitis is inflammation of pancreas. There are 2 forms of pancreatitis: acute and chronic. Acute pancreatitis is acute inflammatory pancreatic process, that can have different forms: from mild to severe with multiorgan failure. It is caused by premature activation of digestive enzymes within acinary cell. Chronic pancreatitis is ongoing inflammatory chronic process, characterized by irreversible morphological changes and gradual fibrotic replacement of the gland. Nowadays 3 forms of chronic pancreatitis are known: chronic calcifying pancreatitis, chronic obstructive pancreatitis and chronic autoimmune pancreatitis.
