Osteoporosis in men
Osteoporosis is a systematic skeletal disease characterized by low bone mass and microarchitectural deterioration of bone tissue, with a consequent increase in bone fragility and susceptibility to fracture (definition by WHO). Prevalence of osteoporosis in our population is assumed to be 6 %. Men make 20 % of all patients with dg. Osteoporosis. While in female gender is more often primary – postmenopausal osteoporosis, in male gender is more often secondary osteoporosis (60 %). Secondary reasons of men’s osteoporosis are different. Very often it is hypogonadism, diseases of gastrointestinal tract and liver.
