Onychomycosis – current problem
Onychomycosis is the infection of the nail unit, caused by fungi. Onychomycosis mainly affects the nails on the lower extremities, which appears more often in adults. It represents approximately 50% of all nail disorders. The causative agents are numerous genera and species of microscopic fungi, mainly dermatophytes, or, rarely non-dermatophytes and yeasts. The treatment of onychomycosis is except of the eradication of the disease, also extremely important preventative measure against further spreading of the infection.
